Media Interview: Fil-Canadian Author Checking off Her ‘Bucket List’

After an awesome winter vacation in Whistler BlackComb, a team of reporter from ABS-CBN North America visited my home to do an interview. With little make up on and less-than-the-usual preparation I welcomed them with open arms and shared my story.

Here’s the video interview and write up. My heartfelt thanks goes to Rowena Papasin and the rest of the team in ABS-CBN North America.

Fil-Canadian Author Checking off Her ‘Bucket List’

White Rock, British Columbia – It’s been quite a journey for this tindera of “Ice candy, Ice Drop and Isda” in Matabungcay beach.

Where before, Juliet Torcelino van Ruyven lived with her family in a one-room bahay kubo.  Now, she owns a beachfront property in a wealthy part of British Columbia.

Her first break came when a priest got her in as a working student at the La Concordia College. And then, van Ruyven met Mother Teresa while she was working in Yemen and she said she felt blessed from that day on.

Several years later, a fateful encounter with Mark Victor Hansen, author of “Chicken Soup For The Soul” led her to write her bestselling book. From there, she has gone on to reap wealth and acclaim.

But when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer two years ago, van Ruyven started taking stock of her life and planning her bucket list. Four months after her diagnosis, she tried skydiving, falling from 13,000 feet high. A few weeks back, she snowboarded in Whistler, and before that, she went hiking in the Mountain Province.

She has also sold the business that helped support their family for the last 15 years so she’ll have more freedom to do what she wants. Van Ruyven said, “I see life as in a different view again…live life to the moment… because you really never know when your time is up.”

Her marriage also took a back seat at the height of her book tours and promotion. But she and her husband Ted, a Dutch aviation engineer, agreed to give their union another chance.

Ted Van Ruyven said,”We had a bit of a breakdown there last year and you know, we’re working on it ever since and I think we’re enjoying our day-to-day being together these days.”

Juliet Van Ruyven added, “We’re working it out, I wanna fall in love again with him.” They look forward to traveling to countries they have never been to, another item in Juliet’s bucket list.

She also plans to write a second book, an ABC of success so she can share her vision and hopefully make a difference in people’s lives. She concluded, “What I want to impart is dreams don’t have deadlines. When you really want to do something, the universe will conspire to make it happen for you.

The Heart to Lead: A Journey to Feminine Strength and Leadership

“Today’s issues are daunting. People feel helpless. And yet the solutions are there. What we need is hope, connection and action. Together we have the power to co-create a sustainable, healthy, and safe world. Women can change the world.”

Indeed the right circumstances and the right people will show up at the right time, but only if one will take action. There she was – though busy with the big event of her husband, Jack Canfield, I pushed myself to grab a moment with her.

Inga Canfield, a kind and gentle woman gave me her time to talk about the movie-documentary “The Heart to Lead: Women as Allies for the Greater Good” which premiered at the 2010 UN Commission on the Status of Women Conference and at the Breakthrough to Success Seminar of Jack Canfield in Arizona, USA in which I was attending. She played a role in the movie, as herself, pouring her heart out on how women can create, contribute and take part in making the world a better place.

The Heart To Lead is a documentary film that explores the significant role women are meant to play in the evolution of culture. Through intimate narratives by women on the journey to self-discovery, The Heart to Lead explores the emerging paradigm of feminine leadership. Women have a built-in homing device to return to who they deeply are and to where they belong. The film shows women attuning to their strengths and connecting with one another, as catalysts for developing personal and social action. Therefore, a tapestry of women are featured, and taken as a collective they express a colorful profile of those in unison, guiding and serving.

Talking to Inga, I instantly felt a connection. We both appreciate the excellent message of this film – that there is a need for women to come together, get into conversations, exchange thoughts, and strengthen each other in becoming better persons and better members of the community – collectively addressing and resolving issues that affect women and the future of our children. Here’s my interview with her, along with a sneak preview of the film:

As soon as she returned home she took a quick action to connect me to the producer of The Heart to Lead. I am now in contact with Bonnie Kelley one of the directors of the movie. We are brainstorming on how we can collaborate to spread and share the message of the move during my world travel and most especially in my home countries Philippines and Canada.

A Review: Letting Go Movie and the Sedona Method

I am so blessed to have watched the movie “Letting Go” with over three hundred like minded-friends. This was during Jack Canfield’s Breakthrough to Success Seminar 2010. The movie is a result of true to life experiences in action, and years and years of practice and teachings of SEDONA METHOD that transformed the lives of thousands of people.

The SEDONA METHOD is a unique, simple, powerful, easy-to-learn and duplicate technique that shows how an individual can uncover his natural ability to let go of any painful or unwanted feeling, belief or thought in the moment. Celebrities and executives and teachers in the film The Secret have used the method to help eliminate suffering and create all their heart’s desires.

Hale Dwoskin, author of the Sedona Method, shared how we can let go of our painful experiences, fears, negative thoughts and programming by simply welcoming and embracing them, breathe and ask three questions.

• Could you let it go?
• Would you let it go?
• When would you let go?

He said that it does not do well for us to hold on to things and feelings that do not serve us. “Let go of the feelings that is causing you distress and the result would be life at ease, pure joy, inner peace and exponential possibilities to live the life we truly want for us and for others we love the most.”

I invite and encourage you to watch the movie with your friends and love ones over and over again. It’s amazing! It’s powerful! When we learn how to LET GO and Heal our own selves we also heal world and make it a better place.
